Thanks for this information.I found the articles in the Hardin Co Past and Present book and have copies of them. The Hardin Co IL Deaths 1884-1919 entry does sound like my John. However the one listed in the Rose #3 also fits his age more. He was born about 1833 in TN. It is confusing, but I tend to believe the Smyrna is the one. I really don't believe Mary came to Ill, because in the 1880 Cheatam Co Tn census, he was listed as a widower and had children John, Ale Augustas and Frank. Also in the 1860 Jackson Co TN census, Mary was listed as Polly! I have seen that on other people also, Mary at one time and Polly at another. Are you connected to the Smith side of this family? Thanks again so much for your help.
