Bascom-Burris is on the west side of Cave-In-Rock, just off of Tower Rock Road (legal description is SWNE Sec 14, T 12 S, R 9 E). I have not yet been to this cemetery. According to the "Cemetery Compilation of Hardin County, IL", the only Rose buried there is Lottie, dau. of A. & S. M. Rose, (your Ale & Salona) who died 20 June 1899 at age 9 months. Of course this book isn't perfect; if a headstone was not found and no one knew of the burial, it wouldn't be listed. There are 2 John Rose's listed in Rose #3 cemetery (extreme SW Monroe Twp.). John L. (1862-1927 born too late to be this John) and John H. (d. Apr 30, 1890 64y 7m 26d). The only 2 Mary's listed were Mary Josephine(1918-1988, Cave Hill) and Mary, wife of Pleasant Rose (b. 19 Jun 1838 - ?). That is all the John and Mary's listed for the county. I then referenced "Hardin Co., IL Past & Present". Sure enough, there was a short article about John Rose and another about Rose - Cullison. I can send you these if you e-mail me. The article, submitted by James H. Rose, says both John & Mary are buried at Smyrna. There is no headstone listed in the cemetery book and I didn't see 1 for them when I was there. According to "Biographies & Genealogical Abstracts from Hardin Co. Newspapers", a John Rose died --- in the 16 Dec 1910 issue of the Hardin County Independent. No other info is given. I do not think thi is your John because..... According to "Hardin Co. Il Deaths 1884-1919", John Rose died 18 Jul 1889 on the Wm. Davis farm (T 11 R 9, which is Cave-In-Rock). He was 60 years old, male, white, a widower, born TN, and a resident of IL for 4 months. He died of Dysentery, duration 13 days. He was buried in Smyrna Graveyard. Both the undertaker and physician were from Cve-In-Rock. Refering back to the Past & Present book, it states that John & Mary Smith came to Hardin Co. sometime after 1880, they brought a son Franklin with them and Ale came later. So, John most likely is buried underneath one of those fieldstones in Smyrna. Maybe Mary is too. Hope this helps. I can e-mail you any of the things you find relevant. I'll keep looking and see what I can find. Dave Notify Administrator about this message?
