Hi, I am researching my Mother's maternal line of Sutton. Her mother's name was Laura Mae Sutton Groves born in Clay County, AR in 1898 to James R. Sutton and Rose Lee (her maiden name) Smith Sutton. According to the 1900 Clay County, AR census, James was born in ILL in 1874 and we do not know who his parents are. My grandmother had a half sister by the name of Edna Smith Brown, a brother Arlie and a sister Reba who was raised by another family in OK. Other Sutton's connected with my Grandmother are: Charles T. Sutton and his wife, Patience Elizabeth Hamilton Sutton from Hardin County, ILL, Edmund L. Sutton and his wife Ann Jones who married in Gallatin County, ILL in 1861, Thomas Henry Sutton, George Albert Sutton (both born in KY), Laura A. Sutton who married John Howard(Laura died and is buried in Ripley County, MO. If anyone is related or knows anything about these families, please contact me as I would love to hear from you. If anyone has the 1880 census available for the state of ILL, I would love to see if you can find my Grandfather, James R. Sutton on it. Thanks and God bless.
