Thursday, January 1, l903

Something rare in the annals of Lamoni occurred Sunday morning in the form of a church wedding, the contracting parties being MR. HERBERT S. SALISBURY and MISS LEONA GWENDOLYN SCOTT. Invitations had been previously issued to a large circle of relatives and friends and at the close of the sermon, after a beautiful solo by Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Clara Lane, a cousin of the bride, struck the strains of Mendelsohn's wedding march and the happy couple attended by Mr. Arthur Smith, cousin of the groom, and Miss Stella Danielson, marched up the aisle and took their places on the platform where they were united for life by President Joseph Smith.

The bride, a young lady of eighteen summers, is the oldest daughter of MR. and MRS. W.W. SCOTT. She has always resided in Lamoni where she has a large circle of friends. She is a l902 graduate of the Graceland School of Oratory. MISS LEONA is the first to break the circle of a group of merry girls of which she has always been one of the most popular and highly esteemed members and it is with much regret that they lose her from their midst.

The groom is a resident of Hancock County, Illinois, where he is highly respected as a man with a moral character and reputation above reproach. He is well educated having studied in the Carthage, Illinois College and the Illinois State University. He has for years been engaged as a university educator, holding last year the position of President of Graceland College. At present he is engaged in the life insurance business.

MR. and MRS. SALISBURY left Tuesday for Hancock County where they will afterwards locate in either Carthage or Ferris, Ill., and where the best wishes of a host of friends follow them.

Those from abroad attending the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Scott, Miss DeEtta and Mr. Ralph Scott, all of Blythedale, Mo., Mrs. John Blackman of Humeston, Iowa and Miss Jennie Parsons of Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
