Hi Shirley. glad this helps. I also have been looking for his parents. I beleive The census your reseacher was talking about was the one in Gallatin co, Il in 1850. Melinda Brown was there with William and her other children. I beleive she died in 1858. I found her in Glenn Miners cemetery book. In 1860 William was living in the household of General F.M. Bean in New Market, IL I am not sure this was him, but it fits.
