Alexander Buchanan marriage to Eunice Carson 1840

I found a reference to a marriage between Alexander Buchanan and Eunice Carson in Fayette, Illinois on 28 September 1840. I have a letter from an Alexander D. Buchanan ca. 1843 from Fayette County, Illinois to his sister in or around Tazewell, Tennessee or Tazewell, Virginia and the letter mentions a John Carson and Lain Carson. Alexander mentions that his wife had died after a long illness. He mentions wanting to travel to see his sister, going to Crab Orchard, Cumberland Gap, Strawplains, and Tazewell.

Wondering if anyone knows of this family or connection. The Buchanans came out of the Smyth or Washington County, Virginia area. Alexander had a sister Martha Ann Buchanan and possibly a brother William.
