I am at an absolute dead end in my research for Friedrich A "Fred" Freiberg. I have found a marriage certificate to Othelge "Tillie" Jacquet on 23 Feb 1879. I have also found his name on numerous birth certificates for his children. But after the birth of his last child in 1889 he drops off the face of the Earth.
It doesn't help that the 1890 Census records for Chicago were destroyed in 1890. I am pretty sure Fred died between 1889 and 1901 when Othelge Jacquet married a Johann Zimmerman, and moved to Michigan.
Family lore is Fred had a tragic end, but no one recalls what. And I am unable to find a death certificate that correlates with Fred's approximate date of birth in about 1852. I have searched Illinois death records numerous times and with numerous spellings (including Soundex). I have also checked Wisconsin death records and the family cemetery plot as his eldest son moved there for health concerns.
I have also done a records search at German Waldheim (now Forest Home Cemetery) where his in-laws were interned in the Chicagoland with no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions where else I should focus my research?
I appreciate any help (or even commiseration as we all seem to have one of these deadends in our trees). Thanks in advance!
