I am posting what info I have on Charles Linder again...I’m crossing my fingers, hoping
that someone will connect him to the other Linders in Illinois.
Charles Linder b. (unknown) Blandensville IL d. January 22, 1903 in Mattoon, Coles
Mary E. Hopper b. about 1846 in Illinois daughter of Uriah Hopper and Nancy Frances
Charles served in the 123rd Infantry Illinois in the Civil War. They had a daughter, Lillie
Myrtle Linder who married William Chaplin in Illinois.
Charles and Mary may have divorced or separated and as far as I know, they were not
together when he died. He is buried in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon Illinois in “Old
Soldiers Row”, which indicates to me that he was destitute at the time of his death. There
are several other Linder plots in that cemetery and I’m assuming he was estranged from
I have sent for his military records, but from experience, I know that it could be the next
millenium before I see results. Can anyone help?
