Hello Linda,

Yesterday, I checked our local history room at the Mattoon public library. The 1924 city directory listed seven schools in addition to the high school. Of these seven, five are still in existence today. They are:
Bennett School 215 S. 32nd Street
Columbian School 2713 Marion Avenue
Hawthorne School 2400 Richmond Avenue
Lincoln School 1210 S. 17th Street
Washington School 1208 Shelby Avenue

The two schools that are not in existence any more were:

Longfellow School at 1213 Prairie Avenue
Lowell School at 1217 Lafayette Avenue

The Longfellow location is a vacant lot.
The block where Lowell school was is now covered with houses.

The Mattoon Community Unit School District # 2 is the governing body for the schools in Mattoon.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

P.S. The city directory also listed a St. Joseph's Parochial School at 19th & Richmond Avenue. That school is no longer in existence.
