Laura Sudlow Mystery

Two families are trying to figure out a dilema.

Family 1. Mrs. Mary (Brewer) Lee (b. 1840 Coles Co.)had a daughter who lived in Hocking Co. Ohio. Daughter's name was Mrs. Laura Sudlow. Laura was not the daughter of Mr. Lee.

Family 2. All Hocking Co. Sudlow's have been documented. Only 2 married "Laura"s. Noel Sudlow went to Coles Co. and married Laura Bell and brought her back to Hocking Co. The info we have on Laura is she was born in 1858 in Coles Co. Her parents were William Bell and Mary Pfifer. Noel and Laura's son married a Laura (Patton) but she has no known association with Illinois.

We are trying to find if Mary (Brewer) and Mary (Pfifer) are the same person. Possibly there is a confusion with the maiden name, using step-fathers name or such. Did she marry William Bell who died after Laura's birth, then marry James Lee?

I checked the online Illinois marriage records and found James Lee married to Mary Bell in LaSalle Co. 12/07/1854. But the date is too soon.. before Laura's birth. Could it be mis-transcribed? If it says 1859 it could easily be a match.

Any help solving this mystery would be appreciated.
