This is from the Addenda of the Doty Cemetery in Coles out of the Prairie Sleeps book:

Levi Doty, born January 26, 1806, in Butler County Ohio, the son of John and Anna (Mann) Doty of Maryland. They moved to Crawford County IL in 1818. The father died there in 1826. Levi moved to Coles County, exploring for a new location for his family. He was the first known white man to arrive and stay any length of time. He lived with the Kickapoo Indians for a year before returning to move his family here. He was married three times, Matilda Phipps 1829, Malinda Phipps White 1854, and Mrs. Lillis White Gillett 1866. There were nine children born from the first and second marriages.

Also other information I have found in the cemetery book:

Matilda and Malinda are sisters, daughters of David & Polly Phipps

Levi was born 1/26/1806 and died 7/14/1887

I do have a bit in my tree on the descendants of James and Mary Polly Teel Doty. I do have a little on the Levi and Matilda Doty family, but not much.

Let me know.
