A man named Jesse Rosel of Coles County obtained a U.S. land patent on Oct. 1, 1833, for eighty acres southeast of Mattoon, Illinois. Perhaps this is the Rosel who may have been married to Lucretia True. A copy of the patent can be found at the Bureau of Land Management's Web site. Also, I find the name Ellis in many records in Spotsylvania County's Internet sites. Perhaps they, like many other families, including the Trues, made the trip over the generations from Virginia to Kentucky to Illinois and beyond.
