Hi Robert
Thank you very much for the railroad info. Does your most recent history of Coles County have anything in it about harness racing in general & Walter Dunn,Stanley Dunn, Harry Fitzpatrick and other harness horse trainers? Walter was a harness horse trainer of some renown who lived just west of Charleston somewhere in the time period from 1900-1930. I don't know how to get to the Charleston Courier archives to read about him. My dad drove a Model T truck for his stable in the 1920's. By inference I get the feeling that he was quite a local hero when horses were a large part of everyone's life. My grandfather, John Wrenn, was a blacksmith who shod race, farm, and buggy horses and sharpened plow shears(sp ?)He was injured when the 1917 or so tornado blew down his shop and killed the team of horses he was shoeing. I tried to post this last night, but the forum was on hold.BW
