Ryan & Mary, Cornelius, William, Kate, & James F. Shannahan 1866-1872.They lived in Charleston, East Alton, & Mattoon, Illinois. The first connection was the railroad which ran through East Alton, Charleston, Mattoon, & Terre Haute, Ind.
It bore various names such as Alton, Terre
Haute & St. Louis. It was commonly known as the Big Four & the New York Central from around 1900 to the 1970's when it went out of business.
