Herdes 1858-1892

This post is a long-shot, but after years of a brick wall I need to try. My great-grandfather was Bernhard Herdes, born in Germany in 1858 and died before 1892. He was married to Anna Rudow 21 Jun 1884, and they lived in Coal City, Grundy Co., IL. She married her second husband in 1892. The family story is that he was killed in a mining accident and that he was a mine inspector. I recently moved away from the Coal City area, but when I was there I researched the mine disasters and even documents with mine inspectors without finding his name.

Coal City does have quite a bit of information on mining and even a small museum with very knowledgeable people running it. To top it off, I was told that the death records around that time were lost in a fire.

I know that there are many Herdes' from the Clay County area and wonder if anyone has information on my Herdes from Coal City. I know, a long-shot!!
