I have been offline for a very long time and have been busy with things other than family history. I have a new email address, I will NOT be using the email address at hotmail.

In answer to your question, I just do not know. I wish I did and that I could be more helpful. John and Catherine Raley were the parents of my great-great grandmother, Ann Raley (aka Vesta Ann Raley). She married Davis Foster, and they had my great grandmother, Mary Jane Foster, b. Clay County, IL in 1848.

As far as the spelling of the names is concerned. People in that very same family spelled their last names differently and their last names were spelled differently by different record keepers. This was a rugged era in history and reading and spelling were not exact back then, if you know what I mean. Within our family history, we have the last name spelled Riley, Raly, Raley, and some other variations as I recall.

Good luck and let me know if you find out anything. I am slow on email responses sometimes.

John Raley (mine) was born in North or South Carolina, we think. I don't know any more than I have posted, as I tried to get what information I had out for everyone.

Take care, Linda
