I, too, have been searching for this William Brooks who married Susannah Wyman. I have also wondered about the marriage of a William Brooks to Susannah Marion in Indiana. However, I've been unable to find potential parents for William.
A Wm Brooks came to Orange Co, IN in 1812. Wm. seems to have settled in Orleans Twn. A Micajah Brooks came to Orange Co, in 1815 and was the first person to "enter land" in Greenfield Township. This is from the "History of Orange Co."
It is interesting to observe that Micajah and Wm. Brooks both came to Clay Co. IL within a few years of each other, (abt 1828-1836) but once again settled in different townships (Songer/Harter for Micajah; Blair/Bible Grove for William). They both claim they were born in NC. They are similar in age. I suspect they were either brothers or cousins, but cannot find anything to support this.
Micajah's wife was named Rachel ____. They moved to Reynolds Co, MO about 1849/1850. They are in the federal census in Being Twn. in the home of their son. They claim to be 96 and 100 years old in that 1850 census, but that seems too old for a number of reasons (by about 10 years????)
I would like to correspond with anyone who is interested in sharing pieces of information about these two Brooks families in the hopes we can learn more. My e-mail address is
