Benjamin R. Parish served in the Civil War from Christian County, IL. He joined on 5 August 1861 and resigned from Co I 41 IL INF as a 1st LT on 28 September 1862. He applied for a pension form the state of Nebraska in March 1889 and his widow, Mary C., applied for a widow's pension on 12 May 1919 from the state of Oklahoma. Personal information for Benjamin at the time he joined:
age 25 5'9" lt. hair/blue eyes/fair complexion married
farmer residence: Mt. Auburn, Christian County, IL
nativity: Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana

The pension file is available for a fee at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. These files can contain a wealth of genealogical information. If you need a professional researcher [faster and less expensive than the NARA staff], I know one who lives in D.C. and is very reliable.

Hope this answers some of your questions!
Regards, Barbara
