Hi Thomas,

The IL Secretary of State's online marriage index shows a marriage between George McIntire and Laura C. Greathouse in Calhoun County on June 29, 1859. The 1860 census for Calhoun Co. shows George, age 25 born Ohio and Laura, age 20, born Virginia. He is a wagon maker. He is listed in the Civil War draft registration as living in Calhoun County, wagon maker, aged 28 (1863). He is not listed in Calhoun County after that.

There is an online family tree at Ancestry that shows him married in 1866 in Washington County, OH to a Sarah Elizabeth Noland who was born March 1837 in OH. The 1870 census shows them living in Troy, Athens County, OH with children Loretta age 14, Mary age 10, Annie age 3 and George age 1, children all listed as born in OH. The 1880 census shows Elizabeth, widowed, living in Hamburg, Calhoun County, IL with children Anne, George, Shadrach age 7 and John M age 5, all children listed as born in Ohio. This tree shows a death date/place for George, Sr. as Dec 1, 1878 in Calhoun County.

Can't find George or wife Laura in findagrave. Clearly George was in Calhoun County IL 1859-1863, and then clearly in Ohio by 1866 and until sometime between 1870 and 1880. Unless the older children from the 1870 census are 2nd wife's children by a first husband they would not have been born in Ohio. Why did George go to Ohio for several years and then return to Calhoun County? Mystery. Did he sell his land in Calhoun County when he returned to Ohio? Did his second wife and family stay in Calhoun County or return to Ohio after his death? More mystery.

Good luck! Hope this helps a little.
