I have a William Frecerick Ijams b. May 11, 1878 in Julian, San Diego County, California. He was the youngest of four children, the others being, Nettie Cornelia Ijams b. June 6, 1873, Isaac Edwin Ijams b. June 4, 1874 and Katie May Ijams b. May 15, 1876 and married Nov. 16, 1895 in Pasadena. The parents were Isaac Clay Iiams b. Sept. 2, 1840 in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio the saon of Isaac H. Iiams and Lucretia Mary Allen.Isaac Clay Iiams married February 25, 1872 in Julian City, San Diego Co., to Edith C. Shaw. All of their children were born in Julian City. You might want to check out the Histories of the county usually found in the genealogy section. Probate Court records, marriage records and death records should give you more information on this family line.
You asked about the orgin of the name. William Iiams, sometimes spelled Ijams or Ijams or Eyoms, was seated in A. A. Co., Md in the middle to late 1640s.He married Elizabeth Cheyney [Cheney] daughter of Richard Cheyney a large land owner.William Iiams obtained his land from his father-in-law but at the time he expired, he held quite a few parcels of land. To this date, no records have been uncovered as to how he arrived in this country. Some of his descendants kept the name of Iiams or Iiames, other used the spelling of Iames, Iams, Imes or Ijams/Ijames.
Isaac H. Iiams was the son of Isaac Plummer Iiams and elizabeth Beck. My e-mail number is: [email protected] me at this number and I will make arrangements with you to send you much more information. Roberta
