John Frederick Ijams/Iiams/Iams/Imes

After many futile attempts to obtain info concerning John Frederick Ijams... ascendants, I came across the following link in Maryland archives: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/refserv/forms/html/genealogistlist.html

Before I venture into selecting one of these researchers, I need to make sure anyone else hasn't gone the same route with no success. I've seen this happen so often where a local research expert is hired, paid $500+ only to come up with nothing.

John Frederick is my husband's GGG grandfather born abt 1765 in Prince George's Co., Maryland, lived in Oglethorpe/Wilkes Co. Georgia then moved to Grainger, Tennessee where he died in 1839. His son John remained in Georgia, and my husband Walter Greer Imes Jr. descends from that line. I have compiled extensive research on John Frederick's descendants, but am at a brick wall with the mysterious John Frederick & so are all the other family members I've been in touch with. It's seems possible he is linked to John Ijams & Ariana Worthington but I cannot find any proof and I've linked up to every site with John and Ariana's lineage with no record at all of John Frederick. As I recall, his home burned down and all the records were destroyed, but isn't there any way possible we can track down his ascendants? And if there aren't any vital records in Maryland archives, how is a geneaologist able to find anything on him? We are having the same problem with a Meriwether branch of our family also from Prince George's Co. and oddly enough connected to the Iiams/Worthington family. Frustrating! Any clues or suggestions are most graciously appreciated.
