Having been out to the Iams and Huff land on Town Creek south of Chaneysville Pa. and down to the later homestead of William Iiams Sr. on Breakneck Rd south of Flintstone Md. I just can't get over how remote it is out there and can hardly imagine 250 years ago. While trying to find out more about Fort Cumberland and the possible ancester of the Dart clan who served there in 1755, I found something that could raise an Eyeoms eyeball. The Governor of the fort, or "Quartermaster" at that time was a Colonel James Innes from Virginia. I have also found in Virginia, but not yet connected to James a Hugh Innes who had sons Robert and Hugh in SW Virginny around 1780. Hugh's family claims descent from way back. The name Hugh sure sticks close in the William Iiams Sr. family. There may be a record somewhere that says where old Willy was born but I doubt we are ever going to find it. What is known is just that he appears out there. I would go a step further and say he was a brother of Rachel Iams who married Elisha Huff in Bedford Co. Pa 1770 We are getting back pretty close to the time 1755-1760's when James Innes was top dog at Fort Cumberland in the heart of Iiams, Ijams, Iames,Jims, James country Notify Administrator about this message?
