I have been doing a little research on Elizabeth Duvall who was supposed to have married Richard Ijams. I believe that we have to start with Elizabeth's parents, so here goes!
Elizabeth Duvall was the eldest daughter of Capt. John Duvall & Elizabeth Jones and she was a granddaughter of Mareen Duvall, the Huguenot of Middle Plantation and she married Benjamin Warfield [16??-1718]. Elizabeth Duvall & Benjamin Warfield had three children: 1] Benjamin Warfield bap. Sept. 25, 1710, died young; Joshua Warfield bap Sept 25, 1710 married Ruth Davis; and Elizabeth Warfield, Married Henry Ridgely, son of Henry & Katharine [Greenbury] Ridgely. Now, Benjamin Warfield died testate leaving a young widow and his death is recorded in the St. Anne's Parish burial as 25th March 1718. The same register recorded the marriage of his widow and also his daughter: "John Gater and Elizabeth Warfield, widow, married 20th August 1719". {"Was married Henry Ridgely to Eliz Warfield daughter to Benjamin Warfield and no date was given}. The marriage of John Gater & Elizabeth Duvall Warfield occurred in 1718. The children of John Gaither & his first wife were 10 in number and DOB ranging from 1702 to 1718. There were a questionable 10 children by his second wife Elizabeth Duvall Warfield Gaither. The Maternity for Amos, Ruth, died young and a 2nd Ruth were proved by the parish register. Which leaves Mary Gaither m. Seth Warfield; Joshua Gaither b. 1726 m. Sarah Jacob; Rezin Gaither m. Sarah Yieldhall; John Gaither m. Anne Ruley; Edward Gaither n.f.i.; Elizabeth Gaither married ? Ijams; Samuel Gaither m. Ruth. If our Elizabeth Gaither is of the 2nd wife, Elizabeth Duvall Warfield Gaither, then her date of birth had to be after 1718. Therefore, John, Charity, Sarah & William Iiams had to be born after 1718. the only one is Aaron Iiams who was bap. June 24, 1721 "If not already baptized baptized Aug. 22, 1732". The only other possibility is that Elizabeth was a daughter of the first marriage of John Gaither and Jane Buck Gaither. [All from A.A.Gentry by HWN] To look a little further on page 69, a "Thomas Bicknell stated that he was entitled to a portion of the distrubiton of Elizabeth Ijams' part as asignee of Henry Ijams who was an heir and part representative of Elizabeth Ijams." Next paragraph, It was again stated that the heirs of Benjamin Gaither were: Joshua Gaither; Ruth Davis; the heirs of Samuel Gaither; the heirs of Rezin Gaither; the heirs of John Gaither; the heirs of Richard Gaither; the heirs of Amos Gaither; the heirs of Rachel Pickett; the heirs of Mary Warfield; and the heirs of Elizabeth Iams [sic].
Comments?
The John Iiams who married Penelope appears to be the John Iiams s/o of Richard & Anne Cheney the frist wife. Roberta
