Hi Richard. This William's daughter, Rachel Iiams(Dart)
was my ggg-grandmother. Like many others, I've tried to trace William's ancestry with no luck. Here's a few things first: Is there any documentary proof his wife was named Elizabeth? 2: I'm thinking his son Amos was actually named Amor. This unusual name becomes prominant in my Dart families, Rachel Iiams Dart is buried alongside her son Amor in Illinois. I have a copy of the will of William and the s and r are very similiar, but it sure looks like Amor. 3: If you see made mention of a gravestone for a Richard Iiams at the Iiams graveyard, don't believe it! I've been there, the stone is for our William's son William Jr. who died in 1858 (not the 1758 date noted on the internet. There is no stone with the name Richard Iiams on it. My notion on William Iiams is that he
was the son, or grandson, of Richard Iiams, born 1704 in
Anne Arundle County Md. This Richard being the son of William Iiams Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Plummer. I've also thought this Richard's wife was Anne Nichols. She is said to have been the wife of the other Richard. Both of these Richards disapear from the early Maryland records. William Iiams Jr. (+Eliz. Plummer) does mention his son Richard in his will of 1738, so he was still alive somewhere. The folk-lore of Bedford County Pa. has a Richard Iiams arriving out there in 1728.
