Eugene W. Walker 10/25/16 to 6/16/03 Gene was born in Filer, Idaho, in 1916 to Roscoe and Grace Walker. He graduated from Filer High School in 1934. After graduation he attended Henager Business College.
Gene learned to drill in the Nevada gold fields and California ports. When World War II broke out, he was inducted into the Army Transportation Corps, rising from private to captain in just 17 weeks. The end of the war found Gene serving as Port Commander of the 532nd Port Company 515th Port Battalion, Port DeBouc, France. After the war, Gene married Helen Bond, and in 1947 they started Eugene W. Walker Well Drilling, which later became Walker Water Systems. In those early years Gene used as his motto "Water, Idaho's most valued resource, Develop, Conserve, Protect." He was one of the founding members of the Idaho Water Well Association and was active in the Association well beyond the time when many would have retired. He recently was honored with an Honorary Lifetime Membership by the Idaho Groundwater Association. He also kept current with Idaho governmental activity in the water well industry. At his death he still held an Idaho Driller's License. Gene is survived by his sister, Lois Dills of Louisville, Kentucky; his two children, Fred Pat Walker and Cynthia Mark Koffer of Twin Falls; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Helen. Memorial services for Eugene Walker will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church of Twin Falls, with Pastor Paul Reeves officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 409, Twin Falls, ID 83303-0409. Services are under the direction of White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
