Just wanted you to know of a few stories my dad told me about himself that I have confirmed:
In high school, he put a skunk in the ventilation system or the main hall or something like that. They sent everyone home, and that was what he was tr ying to accomplish.
He drove off the side of the road once on a hillside and landed on the only tree for miles.
When he was in Hollister, he told me that he was such a holy terror. One time, he moved an outhouse back a couple of feet.
Oh, then after he was in the South Pacific during WWII it changed him. He was sent where there was heavy fighting, lots of killing. He said that he got so tired that he just would let the bouncing bombs just bonce right past him. He saw atrocities against the Japanese on the Islands, and his buddies were killed. He hated all of it and would tell my sister and I about it. We couldn't listen sometimes so just left the room. He came home missing only a toe, and having severe malaria problems. HE WAS A CHANGED MAN. I was born after he came home and we moved to Portland, OR before I was one year old. My dad was then one of the most compassionate people I ever knew. He kept learning and growing, and he was proud of that. He had a heart attack and died when I was 20. I will never forget all the stories he told me about his Hollister days as Calvin Vest. I have to say I didn't believe those stories from my dad. It seemed so out of character. Now, I have heard little stories from enough sources, that I know he was a holy terror. Now, I know why he didn't really think anything my sister and I did was really that awful when we were kids.
