Janis,

The names Shellabarger/Shellaberger/Shellenberger seem to be used interchangeably, which makes it difficult to research effectively. Spelling varies by record for both men. I followed both Charles Shellaberger's and Samuel Shellabarger's families back three generations, but I didn't find a common ancestor. That surprised me, since both men were born in Ohio. The families were originally from Switzerland, and settled around Ohio and Pennsylvania. The name was Schellenberg in Switzerland. Idaho Death Index doesn't list any certificates under the name Shellenberger.

Charles Shellaberger and his wife were passengers in a car driven by J. F. Ullery, when the car was struck by the Interurban near Eagle Heights, east of Nampa. Mr. Ullery, his wife and two daughters, along with the Shellabergers, were all killed (Charles lived for one day). Anna Shellaberger's maiden name was Ullery, so J. F. may have been her brother. That was from an article in the Idaho Statesman.

Samuel Shellabarger had operated a dairy farm in Nebraska (1900), and moved to Nampa soon thereafter, where he was an undertaker (quite a career change). His wife Clara was a member of DAR.

Samuel and Charles were both married previously. Charles and first wife Emma Naugle were divorced. Both his marriages were in Missouri. Samuel's first wife, Elizabeth Hedges, died. He married Clara Cushman in 1890 in Nebraska.

It appears that George's father, who was also named George, was a brother to Charles. Younger George was born in Louisiana, although his father was born in Ohio. His wife's maiden name was Lulu Weaver. They were married in Nampa.

Hope this helps a little. - Mary
