Here is more information on Stephen Grant's family: Parents were David D. Grant (b. abt. 1825 in Scotland) and Julia Wood (b. abt. 1834 in NY). They were married around 1849, probably in New York. David stated that he came to America in 1836. Children were: Orrin J. (b. abt. 1851 PA), Elizabeth M. (b. abt. 1857 MO), William (b. abt. 1858 MO), David (b. 1860 MO), George (b. abt. 1862 MN), Stephen, James (b. abt. 1867 IA), Nettie and Nellie (b. abt. 1872 IA) and Elsie (b. abt. 1893 MO). Elsie had to have been adopted, or maybe she was actually a grandchild that they raised. 1860 census showed the family at Kirksville, Adair, MO. 1870 census showed them at Washta, Cherokee, IA, as did 1880. 1900 census showed David married to Lovena or Louena (Freeman) and living in Vernon, Co., MO. They were married 14 Jan 1899 in Vernon Co. She was born 1860 in IL. After they were married, Stephen and Lewsetta lived in Springfield (1910) and later Deerfield, MO (1920), before moving to Idaho. It looks like Lewsetta's given name was Maria, and Lewsetta was her middle name. Her parents were George Cole (b. 1836 OH) and Eliza DeCoursey (b. 1846 IN). She had one brother, Wilmer. George and Eliza were married around 1878. I realized that I knew Wilmer's grandson, who died in 2010. Members of that family are buried at Parma. This may be more information than you wanted, but you can pass it on to the inquiring family member to sort through it. Mary Notify Administrator about this message?
