I found this estate posting. It looks to me that Edward Thorp died in 1885 not 1886.

Estate of Edward Thorp, deceased. Notice is hereby given by the undersigned, Samuel F. Taylor, administrator of the estate of Edward Thorp, deceased, to the creditors of, and all persons having, claims against, the said deceased, to exhibit them with the necessary vouchers, within six months after the first publication of this notice, to the said Samuel F. Taylor, at Eagle Rock, in the county of Bingham.

Samuel F. Taylor, in the 1900 census for Idaho Falls, Bingham County, ID. is 52 years of age and born in Kentucky. He is living with his wife Betty and 6 children along with an Aunt Betsy Goodwin, a servent and two lodgers.
