Edward SOPER born 21 Dec 1878 in <Alpena >, Michigan was the son of Loretto SOPER and Elizabeth RAWSON of Alpena, MI, whose other children were Charles E SOPER born abt Jan 1879 in MI; Leonard SOPER born 19 Mar 1888 in Alpena, MI; and daughter Francis SOPER born abt Mar 1886 in MI. Apparently Edward SOPER married Mrs. Rose (HAZEN) FLEETWOOD, a divorcee who was my gr-grandmother's niece. Rosetta "Rose" Hazen born 25/26 Feb 1883 in Gates, Custer co, Nebraska married 3 times. Her 3rd Husband (if they did marry -we haven't found a marriage record) was Edward ("Ed") SOPER. They would have married sometime between 1923-1926 probably in Bonner co, Idaho. Edward SOPER was born 21 Dec 1878 <of Alpena, MI>. Ed Soper worked in a logging camp with Rose's 2nd husband, Arthur FLEETWOOD, who she divorced because he was abusive and a heavy drinker. Arthur came home drunk once too often and his two oldest sons, Val and Clem ran him off with a gun. Rose's 7 Fleetwood children were pretty much raised around the logging camps near Sandpoint, Bonner co, Idaho in Northern Idaho. Rose and Arthur FLEETWOOD's first child, Leslie Valentine FLEETWOOD was born 14 Feb 1907/1908 in Banff, Alberta, Canada. When Rose SOPER died in 4 Oct 1926 in Elmira, Bonner co, Idaho, she and her 6 youngest kids were living with Ed SOPER in a cabin about 20 miles from the town of Sandpoint, Idaho. In Pinecrest Cemetery, Sandpoint, Bonner co, Idaho the name on her headstone is Rose SOPER. Ed Soper didn't have the means to support the 6 FLEETWOOD youngsters so they were split up into various families. The youngest, Madeline FLEETWOOD, age 4 was adopted by a local family. 1930 census Apr 2 Elmira, Bonner, ID lists: Edward Soper widowed age 52 born <1878> MI NY CAN owns his home $1,200; a forest woodworker - living alone.
