Cathy - I just found your message. I have found some info about Riley Icenogle in "The Johnstown Story" by Freda Landrus Misenheimer
1976. On page 592 this is found: "Riley Icenogle had married Adeline Galey, though it is not known where they came to Johnstown from. Some believe the wife died and is buried in Wright Cemetery as was Riley at a later date. He had sons Dock and Zay and a daughter Adeline, who married Byrd Jones, son of Wiley Jones. They moved to Iola, Kansas, then to Jett Oklahoma, where they were living at the time of Byrd's death. Dock and Zay Icenogle moved to Arkansas after their father's death. They never returned here. There may have been other children." This was told to Freda by her father Taylor Landrus. On page 572: "It was old Riley Icenogle who played the fiddle. All the Icenogles were musical. Joe Icenogle was a fine fiddler and old Riley fiddled and called square dances." Freda's uncle "Jot" Landrus told her that story. He also said "I remember Riley's fiddlin' wasn't fancy, but it was loud and tuneful and his actions and chanting made for wonderful fun. He played one song...he'd play it, then stop and sing 'Hello Bill! How are you? How'd your taters turn out? They didn't turn out a-tail. I had to dig 'em out.' Then Riley would laugh and just saw away on that old fiddle, Another favorite was 'Over the Hills and Far Away'. I'll never forget that one, he'd play it by the hour." Jot was 80 when Freda interviewed him - she did a lot of her work in the 1950s.
On page 922 of the same book: Icenogle, Riley, marr. Jemima Howard on June 25, 1853 by Tom Jeffries. Coles County, Illinois.
Hope this is some help.
Marianne
