Guðmundur Þorsteinsson 1767
Hi, I have been posting on this wall earlier hoping to find some information regarding my 5th great grandfather. It seems difficult to find any information about him from his life at Iceland though :=).
After searching the Icelandic historical familytrees I found a Guðmundur Þorsteinsson b.1767 in Ásar, Stórinúpur, Árnes, Iceland (id I14501). He is not registered as deceased in Iceland and the age will fit him being 33 years old in 1801 (Denmark, Brahe Trolleborg). His mothers name was Guðrún Björnsdóttir b. 1734 Skál, Kirkjubæjarklaustur, Vestur-Skaftafells.
Can this possibly be my Gudmund Thorsen? - he is said to have arrived in Denmark on a royal command in 1792 to teach danish weavers damask(?). Or maybe to be thought weaving in order to go back to Iceland? Planning to stay for 20 years, and then go back to Iceland. The payment was to be 20 rigsdaler each year.
Many thanks Merethe
