Hello Daryl
Why don't you look at this page
http://www.halfdan.is/news/newsletter_063.htmhttp://www.halfdan.is/news/newsletter_063.htm
That page describes one Icelandic family that changed their name to Walters. (I dont know if that is your family or not)
That may help you understand Icelandic naming practices.
You said her name was Ellen Walters and that her father was John Walters. Elin is a common Icelandic name, if her father was John, Jon in Icelandic, then her name would be "Elin Jonsdottir"although that doesn't explain the name "Lena"
In the 1906 Census it is unclear if she is from Ireland or Iceland in 1889. In the 1901 Census it says clearly that she is from Iceland in 1891.
You need to find an older member of your family and see if you can find her correct Icelandic name. Maybe on the back of a picture or in a book or old newspaper clippings ?
