I am trying to assist a cousin of mine in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada in an estate search for a person of Icelandic heritage who died intestate. He has been able to trace everyone in her family except an aunt, Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir, who emigrated from Iceland to America in 1888. Sigurlaug's background is as follows: · Bjarni Palsson 1835-1884 married Elinborg Eggertsdottir 1839-1891 · Their children were o Jon Bjarnason 1860-1860 o Bjarni Bjarnason 1863-1944 o Gudlaug Bjarnadottir 1866-1911 o Jon Bjarnason 1867- o Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir b 1 Nov 1869, Reykjasokn, Skagafirdi o Gudrun Bjarnadottir 1871-1943 · Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir emigrated to America 1888. We have not been able to locate Sigurlaug in Canada. · In the 1870 census of Iceland Bjarni Palsson, age 30, was a labourer for farmer Petur Bjarnason at his farm Reykir, in Skagafjardarsysla. With Bjarni was his wife Elenborg Eggertsdottir, 30, and their daughter Gudlaug Bjarnadottir, 4. Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir age 1, was listed as a pauper at Maelifellssel, the farm of Jon Hallgrimsson in Skagafjardarsyslya. I understand that later Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir was a worker at Nautabui, Skidastodum and at Hof before leaving for America in 1888. Her emigration was listed in Vesturfarskra page 262, as a vinnukona, 18, from Hof, Lytingsstadshreppur, Skagafjardarsysla). We need to trace Sigurlaug in America to determine if she had any children who might be heirs to the estate and am wondering if, by lucky chance, someone might have or be able to find information about Sigurlaug Bjarnadottir in America. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Notify Administrator about this message?
