Well Robert, this was not the easiest way to contact me – was it :-) Have been out of town these last days and besides I have been very busy lately tracing the ancestry of some “Icelanders” in NA. It takes all my time, haha! Well, this is what I do all days since my retirement. Lot of people “over there” wants to know about their Icelandic ancestry. Anyway, I’m definitely not the best to answer your query regarding Sira Eirikur Magnusson (sira=reverend) at Audkula. I see that Magnus (maggi) gives you his view of the case, and many like to trace Eirikur Magnusson’s ancestry like he does. The problem is that it seems to be NO evidence at all that Eirikur Magnusson’s ancestry is like that. The Espolin-records, a compilation of very old genealogy records, gathered in the beginning of the 18th century, records the “Kulu-aett” i.e. the Kin of Kula (Kula is a shortening of Audkula), and it starts on this: "Magnus was a man in the west (the western part of Iceland), had (as a wife) Svanborg. Their children: Bjarni, Eirikur." So, this old record does not mention any surname neither for Magnus nor Svanborg. In the genealogical work Íslenskar æviskrár (often referred to as ÍÆ or Íæ) Eiríkur Magnússon’s parents are said to be Magnús Einarsson, lawman, son of Einar Magnússon from Dunhagi, and his (i.e. Magnús’) wife Svanborg (no surname). The well known (in Iceland) genealogist Einar Bjarnason (1907-1982) states in an addendum to Íslenskar æviskrár (Íæ) that there is no certainty and in fact no likelihood that Eiríkur Magnússon’s father was Magnús Einarsson and neither that Einar lawman, was from Dunhagi or the father to mentioned Magnús Einarsson. So you see, I do not trace Magnús Eiríksson’s ancestry. It’s enough for me to know how others like to do it and I don’t make any fuss about it :-) Regards, Halfdan Notify Administrator about this message?
