Hi Nonni, you may be right but I cannot verify it. Elisabet, the one in Vesturfaraskrį page 147 was the daughter of Gušmundur Aušunsson (1834-1905) and Gušrśn Bjarnadóttir (1843-1911), farmers at Jafnaskarš in Borgarfjaršarsysla. Gušmundur and Gušrśn divorced in 1885. According to Borgfirskar Ęviskrįr, vol. III, page 188, their daughter Elisabet married an Irish gentleman and had with him 8 children. Was Charles William Smith an Irishman? Isn't Nellie an Irish name? Elķsabet's brother, Nikulįs Gušmundsson emigrated also in 1887 - from Hrešavatn, page 144. From Almanak 1950, page 111 I find the following: "Hallgeršur Goodman, widow of Nikulįs Gušmundsson Goodman died at the home of her son in Netley, Man.". This Nikulįs is undoubtedly Elisabet“s brother. So Nikulįs took the Goodman name in Canada and I find it very likely that his sister Elisabet did so too. Please let me know when you find out :-) Regards, Halfdan Notify Administrator about this message?
