It is easiest just to give the information you have, and someone with the data can look the individuals up for you.There are two names that are particularly difficult, "Jón Jónsson" and "Guðrún Jónsdóttir", in particular if you only have the year of birth, not the date.
Now, as I have said in an earlier message, I may not be able to answer for legal reasons at the moment - however, I can probably tell you where to find the information (which parish records and so on).Others may not have the same restrictions, and may be able to tell you what you need to know.
Hopefully the legal situation will be resolved soon, and at that time the Islendingabok database will be made available on the web.
