Eyjólfur Grímsson born 1500, priest at at Staður in Grindavík about 1538-41, Hvalnes, Melar in Borgarfjörður 1549 but was a priest at Skálholt 1549-51.
It is thought (according to Jón Halldórsson, priest at Hítardalur), that Þórður Guðmundsson (the title "lögmaður" is somewhat hard to translate in modern terms...he is the highest authority in the land on non-religious law issues) had him removed from Melar 1653 (for hiding/protecting his son, who had become an outlaw), but is is known that Eyjólfur was defrocked (?) on 24 February 1571 (Alþb.Ísl.), for various reasons/charges.It is somewhat unclear whether he really was a priest at Melar 1563-71, but the court documents seem to indicate it was the case.
He is thought to have been married three times, and the name of his first wife is known...she was Guðrún Gísladóttir,
the daughter of Gísli (Jónsson), prestur at Lundur.
Eyjólfur is believed to have been in charge of the service at the burial of bishop Jón Arason.
