Hi! I was just googling for information on my great-great grandfather and your forum thread showed up. Sorry that I did not see it sooner. Hopefully you found what you need and perhaps I can help a little. Charlotte and I were in touch for a while (and I should get back to her because she's one of the sweetest people you could ever know -- hope you said hi!).

My great-grandmother, who is still alive, was Thomas Albert Ice's youngest sister, Erma Roberta Ice. She was born in Colorado, where James Robert Ice's family lived in 1920. They lived in Kansas before that, and his parents' family in West Virginia when he was a young child.

Granny married Gramps (Amel Nickell) sometime before '37. Goodness, I recall her having a crocheted marriage picture on the wall with the year and date of their marriage. He passed away just a few years ago. They moved to Ellensburg, WA.. well... I don't really know when. But I know their kids grew up here. I'll have to ask her. From what I can tell, she is the only one of all her siblings who moved away from Colorado to Washington. I can't imagine what that was like to be so far away from everyone. She still lives in Ellensburg, and we all kinda take care of her, but she lives by herself, cleaning and baking and doing all those grandmotherly things. ;-) Let me just say that she makes the best lemon meringue pie ever! It's locally famous.

Erma Roberta Ice and Amel Nickell had three children. My grandfather was their middle child. Their older daughter, Margaret, was a trick rider, I think. Rodeos are really big in Ellensburg. Her photo is at the museum downtown.

From what I understand, two of Granny's brothers died at a young age in... interesting circumstances. Mom said that Granny told her they were pretty much hooligans. Also, she didn't know her older siblings so well, as she was the youngest of fourteen, after all! Of course, she wouldn't have known her Kansas family so well.

Feel free to e-mail me, if you like. Hope I can be helpful. =)
