I have been on and off but haven't gotten very far. All I found out was he went under the name Walter I. Dent, married a Pauline Middleton from Philidelphia, had 2 children, Lenore, & Leon Pliny, and died in Shanghai, China of typhus or ship fever. I also saw something that said his son was reported to be living in Philadelphia in 1931.
The book "Genealogical & Personal History of the Upper Monogahela Valley, WV originally published in 1921 says Pliny he was captured at Fort Pulaski, South Carolina but escaped before he knew of the reprive given by then Pres. Grant (whose wife, Julia Dent was probably a cousin of Pliny's mother, Annara Dent Ice). The book "The William Fleming Family" also says Pliny & others lowered themselves from 3 stories to escape the night before Grant's reprive reached the prison. They had to swim across a bay in which some drowned and 1, a man named Devlin, was eaten by a shark.
