I am researching the Frank L. and Dellephine (Austin) Dunham family of Sioux City, IA.
In particular the union of George H. Dunham and Jessie M. Musselman. While searching for evidence of Jessie M. Musselman's father's name, I have gathered a little about the Frank L. Dunham family, and I have been looking for George and Jessie's marriage record and Jessie's death record which may reveal her father's first name.
There are conflicting references to George H. Dunham's wife's name in the Census and Sioux City directories.
In the 1910 Census his wife's name is listed as "G. H.", in 1920 she is "Jessie", in 1930 she is "Helen" and in his obituary in 1944 his widow is listed as "Edith". The Sioux City Directories from 1913 thru 1919 list his wife as "Jessie".
A Frank W. Dunham was listed, in 1930, as a son to George H. and Helen Dunham, but I'm thinking that Frank W. was actually the natural son of George H.'s brother Jay R. Dunham and his wife Grace Sutherland, whose father was "Watson" Southerland. Grace died in 1922 in Warba, MN shortly after the birth of Frank W., and I think that George H. adopted his nephew, Frank "Watson" Dunahm.
In Frank Watson Dunham's marriage to Martha J. Gembler in 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa, George H. and Jessie (Musselman) Dunham are listed as Frank's parents.
In Frank W. Dunham's obituary Jay and Grace Dunham are listed as his parents.
I'm also wondering if George H. and Jessie Dunham had any children of their own.
I know that Jessie M. Musselman was the daughter of Jane E. "Jennie" (Snyder) Burkitt, who married John W. Burkitt in 1882 in MN. The 1900 Boise, Ada Co., Idaho Census lists Jessie M. Musselman as a daughter of Jennie E. Burkitt, and two younger "Burkitt" daughters, Mamie and Rachel.
I'm suspecting that Jessie's father was Charles Musselman, brother to my GG Grandfather Theodore Musselman, who's wife, Maria H. Snyder, was a sister to Jennie E. (Snyder) Burkitt.
If true, Charles Musselman and Jennie E. Snyder would have been married in about 1879-1880 and Jessie M. Musselman was born in November of 1880 in SD.
Charles Musselman went on to re-marry in 1891 and then again in 1898.
Any help with these Dunhams from Sioux City, would be most welcome.
