Hi. I was wondering if someone from Wapello County, IA could do me a favor. I have been searching and searching for information on Oley Napoleon Underwood. He was born in Indiana in 1863 or 1865. (His obituary says 1865 and the 1900 Illinois census says 1863.) He died in 1940. I have not been able to find his parents' names. He also went by his middle name of Napoleon, because on his son Edward's obituary, it lists Edward's father as Napoleon Underwood. Now, there was also another Napoleon Underwood that was born in Indiana, and he died in Iowa in 1925. He was born in 1862, around the same time as Oley Napoleon. Someone sent me the 1870 and 1880 Indiana censuses with a Napoleon, and that Napoleon's mother and father were William and Priscilla Underwood. I was wondering if someone could look at the courthouse there in Wapello County and look at Napoleon Underwood's death record and see who his parents are, or go the library and see if there is an obituary on him that lists his parents's names. If his parents names are listed as William and Priscilla, then I'll know that those are not Oley Napoleon's parents. Someone posted this on Rootsweb for me on the Napoleon that died in Iowa: The IA cemetery records index on Ancestry says: Napoleon B. Underwood b. 1862 d. 04 Jul 1925 Town: Ottumwa Cemetery: Ottumwa Gravesone records of Wapello county, IA The puzzle is, I can't seem to find this guy in any census after 1880 so I'm not sure what to think - he may not have died there, but is only buried there. If he did die there you might want to search for an obit on him too. Nancy If someone would look up Napoleon's death record or obit for me, I'd truly appreciate. If not, are there any lookup volunteers in Wapello County, IA listed on the Internet? Thank you, Stacy Smith Notify Administrator about this message?
