LUCAS LEDGER ITEMS:

J.D. KNOTTS returned Saturday from Mexico to visit his family.

MRS. A.T. SWANSON is entertaining her niece, MISS VERA MALONE, of Nevada, Iowa.

A baby girl was born to G.L. HESTON and wife west of town Tuesday.

MISS NELLIE OWENS, formerly of Lucas, was married to CHAS. WILLIAMS at Ontario, Cal., June 26th. They are expected to come to Lucas on the wedding tour.

SUMNER VOORHEES, who has been working at the carpenter trade at Letcher, S.Dak., came Monday to spend a week with old friends before moving his family to that place.

The Lucas school board has employed JAMES STOKE, of Oskaloosa, as Principal of the schools. MR. S. is highly recommended as being a thorough educated gentleman and we hope to see good work done in our schools the coming term.

JOHN OLSON who has been a partner in Allen & Son's store at Woodburn has accepted the position of head clerk at Rowe's Store and moved his family back to Lucas last Monday. Their many friends are pleased to have them with us again.

MRS. G.L. GINZELL was called to Colorado Springs last Saturday to attend the funeral of her son-in-law, ERNEST M. STEEL. The deceased was an engineer on a western railroad and was killed in a wreck near Denver on the 25th ult.

The marriage of MISS ELIZABETH JORDAN, daughter of MRS. KINSEY JORDAN, to CLYDE POND, was solemnized Sunday, June 23rd at the home of the bride's mother at Ottumwa. The wedding was a quiet one, only the immediate relatives being present. CLYDE is the eldest son of Rev. W.B. POND of Lucas
and is a most estimable young man, and his bride is highly spoken of by all who know her. The young people have already gone to housekeeping in Ottumwa where MR. POND is an employee of the Burlington road.

*Does anyone have any POND connections? CLYDE POND would have been my step-grandmother's brother.
