Could you search for Anton Mertens who lived in Earling and later in Defiance until he moved his family to Texas in 1918? All his children were born in Earling in the 1890's and his wife died in either Earling or Defiance c1916. His wife's name was Maria (Mary)Stessmann Mertens and his children were: Josephine, Ella, Marie, Theresa, Anna, and Cecelia. Anything you can find will help. Thanks!
