The history of Shelby Co., Iowa, does not have a specific biography for H. B. KEES; however, the book does contain different and various references to him as follows:
1. page 336. The Shelby Co. Farmers' Institute was organized in the fall of 1889, and H.B. KEES was elected president. The following year, the institute was held in Harlan, Iowa, and the subject of breeding registered stock was discussed by H.B. KEES and others.
2. Page 337. For a number of years following origination, H.B. KEES was President.
3. Page 338, the Shelby Co. Fine Stock Exchange was organized and first met at the courthouse on May 31, 1902. Those present who subscribed for stock included H.B. KEES.
4. Page 306. The Shelby Co. State Bank was organized Dec 1, 1880. It's first officers were elected then. In 1883, H.B. KEES was chosen Vice President and continued as one of the vice presidents for 31 years.
5. Page 241, JOSEPH MERRILL is listed as an early businessman of Harlan, Iowa.
6. Page 347-48, states that the Shelby Co. fair was held in the extreme southwest part of Harlan, Iowa, in the vicinity of the residences of JOSEPH MERRILL and J.W. BAILEY.
I hope this is helpful to you.
