Dee,

Tell me about your Rices. I can't find my gggrandfather Esau Rice who was in the area in 1870. His eldest son Benjamin is in the 1870 census at Pella, next son Ulysses had a son at Vandalia in 1869 and is in the 1870 census at Commerce west of Des Moines. Daughter Josephine Elizabeth Rice Joslin is in the 1870 census at Guthrie Co., IA. Esau died in 1878 at Norwalk, IA but didn't live there and isn't buried there. With him in 1870 would have been wife Sarah, son Henry or Asbury and daughter Elizabeth.

I have Burrows, Spillman and Vestal ancestors in Poweshiek Co. around Searsboro.

Marion Rice
