Are there Des Moines city directories for 1913 to 1917? Rene Eugene Scheffer, I believe, was an active duty soldier at Fort Des Moines, from the time he married Blanch Mathias in 1912 until sometime before he died of TB of the throat in Jan. 1917 in Fort Bayard, NM. He was returned to the Cavalry Cemetery in Fort Des Moines and buried there, to be reinterred with his wife in Woodland Cemetery, when those buried in Fort Des Moines were moved to Keokuk National Cemetery. A city directory entry for them during the period of 1913 - 1917 could tell me when he was sent to NM for treatment. Shirley Maynard Hampton, PA Notify Administrator about this message?
