Vrchoticky seems to be the version of the name that has lasted in the Iowa City area. Frank Vrchoticky had his estate probated in Johnson County, in the 1902-1904 time period. If you could get someone to check for that at the County Clerk's office, it should include a list of his heirs, to see if the Barbara that married Frank Shimitz was his daughter.

Johnson County is very sizeable. I don't know how well they work with genealogists and if they do any research for called or mailed in requests. I wasn't able to find any lookup volunteers online.

Note: This really belongs with one of the other messages in this thread that I've posted which talks about Barbary Shimitz parents.


Also note: The old country of Bohemia presently occupies about the western 2/3 of the modern Czech Republic.
