The parents are James David MURRY and his wife Lydia Hannah METCALF MURRAY, who were married 31 Dec 1877. The following year, they had a baby who was born dead and the next year, 1879 on 13 Oct, Earl David MURRAY was born. Ada lived a long life, actually, 4 Jan 1883 - 22 Dec 1971. That is amazing news that Marian was a ward. I do not know whether Earl's death took his sizeable family by surprise but I do know Ada's life was hard, taking in washing given as occupation on one census. The household was impoverished from the loss of chief provider. Still, I'm not sure that explains Marian's disposition as ward. I have been able to locate Marian, 88, if not to reach her by phone. She and her husband live in California.
