Thanx Caroline, The 1885 Albion twp, Howard co household of French born Michael & Mary RICHL consists of Hawkeye born children Sarah 24, Anna 23, Amelia 16, George 14, Henry 12, & William 5. There is no Edward. The official start date of the 1885 census is 1 Jan. There is no date on the enumeration pages. Possibly young Edward was not born yet? Information on a death record is only as good as the knowledge of the informant so it too, as well as any "official" document, is subject to error. Maybe your trek to Cresco will be enlighening. I'll try again on this but a Frank Merritt with only a Wi. nativity doesn't give us much to work with. Ain't genealogy grand? Dick
